Hi all,

Hope you all had a good Christmas season. Sorry I missed the last meeting as I had made an obligation without looking at the calendar for the Club. Thanks, Milt, for filling in for me.
I just received my Wheels of Time magazine and the story about the Porter Show was NOT in it, so I called national and asked. I was told that space was a problem in this issue, so it WILL be in the next one, I’m looking forward to that.

Next on our agenda is the Logging Show Feb 7th ,8th, and 9th. Move in will be on Wed the 6th and move out on Saturday after 4pm but must be out by noon on Sunday. We will be at the same place as before but in front they have a vender. Remember that it is covered so weather should not be a problem. I’m hoping to get all of us that can to help and to try to get some new members.

The coffee cups are here and guess what so are the fly swatters. If you don’t know about the swatters you need to come to the next meeting.

We are still getting ready for the National Show in Reno May 31st – June 2nd. From what I read, a booth will cost $500.00 but I will call next week and see if we can set up a table at one of our trucks. I’m not wanting to pay for a vendor spot. I would think we could just do a table by one of our trucks. I will know for the next meeting. We are also working on things to sell or give away at the show and should have the Porter Show flyers by then. We also talked about a brochure about the Club and I will be working on that in the next few weeks. If you have some input on that let me know. I was thinking (yes I do that sometimes it's hard but you know) I could take the story I wrote about how the club started and the card Norma has with the brief description of the club and maybe the story that will be in the WOT and send it to my designer that did the Porter Show flyers and ask him to do something with it for a start. Then we would have something to hand out at all events.

I was also thinking (there I go again trying to work with tools) anyway let’s try to put a big effort to go to the Plymouth Show in Plymouth April 27th. It’s not that far away and is always a good show. I’ve always said that the Plymouth Show starts the show season and the Porter Show ends the show season like bookends.

This coming weekend I’m going to the Redwood Chapter’s dinner and meeting will give a report on it at our meeting. Also, the Reno Chapter meetings are on the Sunday before our meeting at noon at the Petro truck stop in Sparks, Nv. They don’t have one in January but I’m going to try to attend them so if you want to go, I’ll be going, and you are welcome to ride with me. But remember that Maurice says that I talk a lot while I am driving so you will be stuck all the way to Reno and back. So, if you dare, I’m going.

We are still having our meetings at M&M’s in Red Bluff, if you would like to have one somewhere else let me know we can move around like we did in the past. We are talking about having one at Larry’s place out by Paskenta in the spring.

We are also looking at places to go and tour this year like the rust museum. That was a fun place. Or the steam mill that was nice. Let’s think about some of those kinds of places this year.

At the next meeting we will talk about getting ready for this coming show year and will try to get a calendar put together. We also need a membership committee to help with that. And some new thoughts on the Porter Show.
                Thanks
See you all at the next meeting

NEXT MEETING Jan 19th

DINNER @ 5 PM
MEETING TO FOLLOW AT 6PM

PS. DON’T FORGET DUES ARE DUE
If you don’t send them in, I won’t be able to keep doing this…HMMM

"Truck Show"
By Charlie Smith

Showing our old trucks to the public is an important part of the hobby. The shows help finance our local club, we gain valuable recognition and support in our local area, and the shows are a good means for recruiting new members.
If you sit by your truck displayed at the show, you are bound to meet several people you have not met before. After several years of going to the shows, I began to notice that the people coming by could be put into several different categories. See if you recognize any of these.

#1 "Possible Recruits"- I enjoy talking to this group. Some are young people who seem to have a real interest in our trucks. Others may be older people who have been working for a living, but now think they have the time to work on an old truck they have previously stashed away. We need these people, so we should always have club information for them at the show. This is an important group, and sometimes they become new members.

#2 "Nostalgia Buffs"- I also like this group. They come to the show for nostalgic reasons and hope to see trucks they once had, or to show their children one like they had, and teach them something about it. I especially like to see the grandfather types with the grandkids, and see that faraway look as they remember some good times in an old tuck back then.

#3 "Cool Dudes and Dudettes" - These folks can be identified quickly. Many are loud and run around a lot. Many of the dudes make outrageous statements, and everything they address always uses the word "cool". Sometimes they even answer each other with "cool, dude!" The women with them seem to not know why they are there and are always looking at their cell phones. A few members of this group that I saw this year were loud, they ran around the tucks, and then spent the remainder of their time running up and down the tower we had up for the show. After a while, they were all gone again. Cool!

#4 "Dollar People"- At most every show you may run into someone from this group. Their first question is "How much is your truck worth?" You don't necessarily respond, but already the second question is, "How much do you have in it?" If you do respond, the next statement may be, "Oh, you could have spent a lot less". If you still haven't engaged with them in more detail, they may end with, "If you are looking for another one, let me know. as I can fix you up for a lot less, and I know where there are lots of these old trucks". Oh, yeah, sure thing.

#5 "Kooks" - Every show has some of these. They can be similar to the "Cool Dudes" and run around a lot. Most also talk loudly. They argue about how we are doing something wrong, or why we don't change something to their benefit. Some even pretend to be experts on how things should be done, or expert on a certain make or model of truck that they think they know more about than we do. Fortunately, you can generally tune them out, and if you don't engage with them, they eventually move on.

#6 "Haven't Got a Clue" - I have never understood this group. Even after seeing the signs for "Truck Show", they will ask, "Is this a show or something?" Some want to know why they can't park with the trucks, even though they didn't bring one. Others who did bring a truck, even though we have explained how and where to park it, still don't get it, and park in the lane, rather than within the lines. I am certain that our club members at registration could add several more examples of members of this group.

#7 "Off Base" - If you have an old truck at the show you have probably met someone from this group. They are generally with someone else and they tell them, "I had a tuck just like this". If they see you are paying attention, then they repeat this for you. Then you may ask, "So you had a truck just like this one", and you give the year and model of your truck. The reply may be, "Well no, mine was a different year, but it was just like this one". You then ask more details based on say, your Chevrolet truck. Their answer then goes something like this, "Well mine was a different year, and a different color, and it was a Ford"!

#8 "Folks Who Bring an Old Truck To Our Show"- This is a favorite group, and we like them all, and are happy to have them. Sometimes they even become members of Group #1, or even better, join our club and become welcome club members.
